What Causes Abnormal Opening Of The Anus?

My step sons anus is abnormally open. it has happened before and eventually looked normal. It has been doing it again more recently, this does not seem normal.We are taking him to his pediatrician on Monday, but it s always good to get another opinion.

Abnormal opening of the anus could be due to anorectal malformation/imperforate anus, fistula in anus, sinus.
It is congenital defect and associate with other abnormalities like cardiac, vertebral and limb defect.
I would suggest to consult the paediatric surgeon and undergo detailed examination.
USG scan/X ray will help in the diagnosis.
Treatment will depend on the test's result and clinical examination.
