What Causes Abdominal Pain, Loss Of Appetite And Nausea?

Hi, I have been having pain in the center of my tummy by my belly button and only hurting on my right side when I lay down for over a week now. Iv had loss of appetite, nausea and extreme pain when I do try to eat. Also diarrhea but now constipated. Is this something I can treat with over the counter medication or should I go to the e.r and get checked out?

Hi,

You had loose stools initially, and now having loss of appetite, nausea and abdominal pain on eating. This can suggest either a gastroenteritis or acute gastritis(but we do not expect loose stools).

You can try taking an acid suppressant (tab pantoprazole 40mg before food once daily), antiemetic (tab domperidone 10mg when needed for vomiting) for 5 days. If this is not getting down in 3 days, kindly see your doctor for evaluation and antibiotic treatment. Meanwhile, avoid spicy, fried items, drink enough fluids and take fibre rich items like fruits and vegetables.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
