Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I experience abdominal pain any time i have bowel movement. My gastroenterologist says its colitis after blood work and colonoscopy were done. I was given dyclomine to help with the pain but still concerned. Are there other steps that can be taken to better determine if it is anything else?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of abdominal pain during bowel movement . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like gastroenteritis, lactose intolerance, electrolyte imbalance, food poisoning, irritable bowel syndrome and crohn's disease. Symptoms can also occur due to piles and anal fissure . You should take diet rich in fibers and take plenty of fluids. For now eat light and non spicy food substances. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order stool test , ultrasound , endoscopy along with that take history. Doctor may prescribe laxative , ornidazole or albendazole along with ranitidine. You should avoid food like seafood and nuts , take antacid after every meal and keep your head elevated while lying down. You should go for exercise daily and take diet rich in fibers. Also apply ointment like shield on anus.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
