What Causes Abdominal Pain Along With Backache And Nausea?

Hi. I have not been feeling well since about last weekend then ended up in the hospital on Tuesday for pain in my abdomen..mainly on the left side and back. the dr said it was kidney stones and was given a strainer to catch said stone. i had 1 urine sample done that day. still slight pain during the week. today i feel nauseous with pain in my back dull and achy. pain where my ribs meet my abdomen. shaky n have had palpitations. I also feel like i am having a panic attack, choking like feeling in my throat/neck area. i ate 1 hard boiled egg w toast around 9 and a cup of coffee and felt bloated afterward. I just don t feel well.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with kidney stones and haven't been feeling well. Kidney stones can be very painful and I'm sure they are miserable to go through.

The likelihood that your stones will pass depends mostly on the size of them; if they are less than 5 mm, they should pass, but as they get larger, they are less likely to pass until at 10 mm or larger they are unlikely to pass.

It can take up to several weeks for kidney stones to pass, but if you are having intolerable pain and other symptoms, they may decide to do a procedure to break the stones from the outside (lithotripsy) or use a scope to remove the stones. I recommend you let your doctor know about your symptoms and possibly get a referral to a urologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
