What Causes Abdominal Discomfort And Brown Vaginal Discharge Post Abortion?
Good morning Doc. My name is Ntombi mdluli from Swaziland. I had a medical abortion January this year without any supervision. I was 3 weeks pregnant. I passed on big clots n something that looked like a big piece of meat. The next day I noticed something the size of an apple moving around my stomach. I continued bleeding for 2 months. After that I had my periods. After my periods i noticed a brownish discharge coming from my vagina. I went to the chemist n they gave me flagill pills. After finishing my medication my vagina started itching and havinga bad smelly white discharge. I ddidn t treat it for aabout2 months then after iI was tired of the smell Iwent to the chemist and they gave me a vigina gel to use. The smell and the ddischargeis gone,bt what iI m worried about now is that the left side of my abdomen has a!ways been slightly swollen and sometimes painful

Your complete history is suggestive of post-abortal infection. This infection is mostly due to the incomplete abortion you had. Termination of pregnancy by medicines should never be done without medical advise and supervision.
The brown bleeding is suggestive of old bleeding which is mostly coming from the parts of the baby remaining inside your womb. The tissues have got infected, hence you are getting foul smelling discharge.
Please do not treat yourself. This is a very serious complication. Report to the Obstetrician immediately and have appropriate treatment. You will have to be on antibiotics and some steps will have to be taken to deal with the tissues remaining inside the uterus. May be you will have to get admitted in the hospital for some time.
