What Causes Abdominal Cramps While On Alesse?

I started taking Alesse 28 birth control 18 days ago, quick start. Did not wait for my period to start pack. 5 days ago got horrible cramps and light bleeding enough now to warrant a tampon. Should I stop taking the pill? How long should I wait until quitting the pill? Cramps are very bad, taking advil every day.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Alesse birth control pill may cause abdominal pain and cramps in few individuals but it may due to infection or polyps etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
