What Causes Abdominal Cramps Along With Nausea And Dark Stool?

Hi there. I have been in Mexico for two days and now have moderate cramping in my lower abdomen, nausea and dark stools. Should I be concerned? I have not taken any pepto bismol since being here, I’ve eaten at the buffets but avoided leafy greens as they are washed in the water. It’s a 4.5 star resort in the Mayan riviera. I drank quite a bit of alcohol yesterday but don’t normally drink much. Could that be a contributing factor?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The black stools you are experiencing comes from blood coming out of the gastrointestinal system from the proximal transverse colon. You need a fibrogastroscopy to determine the course of it. Ulcers and cancer are two possible causes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka
