What Causes A Swollen Lump On The Forearm After Abdominal Surgery?

My husband had abdominal surgery about 6 weeks ago for colon cancer which was complicated when they discovered a very bad gall bladder with a large stone protruding from it. As a result, he was in the hospital a week with IV s in each arm. Today he discovered a lump about 1/2 X 1/8 lying along a vein in his forearm. It is tender to the touch, but is not red or swollen. If you try, you can move it from side to side. Does this need to be checked by his internist (or oncologist? He is not on chemotherapy)?

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
A tender swollen lump on forearm may be an abscess or a local skin infection.I will suggest you get the lump examinaed by his Family Doctor. If any of the above, he may not need to see his Oncologist or Internist.A possible colon cancer metastasis is less likely given the location of the lump and a visit to Oncologist may not be necessary. Also, if he needed chemotherapy after his surgery, his Oncologist would have taken care of it since colon cancer may not be operated upon without extension work-ups done.In the meantime, he may take an anti-inflammatory pain drug like ibuprofen.Further management will be after examination.
Hope this will help
Best regards
