What Causes A Swelling On Arm After Putting On A Cast?

a little boy age 5 had a cast put on his arm after a fall cause a splinter in his arm bone. After two days now his hand is swollen and it looks like the cast is too tight. The child says his had does not hurt, but it is swollen. Is this normal or should we take him back to a clinic right away - when should we begin to worry?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear patient
This needs urgent attention as swelling after cast application means cast is tight and may lead to compartment syndrome. Please take him to clinic as soon as possible or split cast at home. Provide strict limb elevation and keep fingers moving actively. Hurry please. All the best.
