What Causes A Seizure?

our 12 year old daughter had a seizure this morning while sleeping. We sat her up and held her for the 5-7 minutes it lasted. Her eyes we open, her mouth was clenched and she was snorting through her nose. When she came out of it we took her to an urgent care facility (its Christmas eve) and got her checked out. She has a history first has seizures a 4, we tried several drugs, settled on lamotrigine which she took, up to 5 x 25 mg twice per day, until age 10. With no seizures we gradually reduced it over a year and for the last 9 months she has had nothing. The doctor on call suggested we give her 1/day for a week, then 2/day for a week, then 3 in week 3 and so on until she gets back to 10/day. Do you have any other advice?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since the lamotrigine was able to control and prevent her seizures. This can be restarted provided she did not have any problems/side effects.

The tapering regimen for restarting is okay and allows for a gradual reintroduction into her system.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
