What Causes A Reddish Purple Spot In The Leg?

The pores on my dads leg have turned a reddish purple color and there is a thumb sized purple spot with a little gray thing in the middle. I took him to the doctors but all he said is stop smoking and to use rash creme but he didn't really do anything to help. Please tell me what maybe wrong with him and what kind of doctor I should take him to.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Respected sir, hi first of all I am very happy you are taking very good care of your Dad , great keep it up dear.
Now the narration you gave exactly fits in the clinical picture of what is known as Sebaceous Cyst a localised pathology in which there is variable size swelling with little gray thing in the middle which is called punctum or center .
I would strongly suggest to take your father to good General Surgeon nearby you to get the perfect management.
Thanks dear
Bye regards
Wishing your Dad fast speedy recovery.
