What Causes A Painful Knot Above Ankle After An Injury?

Kicked a coffee table really hard...top edge nailed me in the leg above ankle. Even with 3 and 4 toe about 2 inches above ankle...red mark no bruise, has a knot..hurts down into foot when extending foot. Should I have looked at? Have already elevated and applied ice.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that due to hitting with the edge of the table there has been injury to the soft tissues and although there is no bruising but the red spot along with hard lump seems to be due to hematoma formation and it occurs due to rupture of blood vessels and accumulation of blood in the soft tissues..
Pain is due to inflamed tissues only..
I would suggest you to do cool compresses over the area..
You can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Apply Heparin gel as it will help in resolving the lump soon..
Elevate your leg while lying down and also limit exertion..
In case of no improvement in a week consult an Orthopedician and get evaluated..
