What Causes A Painful Bump And Trigger Finger In The Thumb?

I think I m having trigger finger in my thumb. There is a big lump(nodule) on my thumb joint , it used to pop and get stuck in place but not no more. Really hurts to bump that lump or grab something to tight putting on my seat belts actually taking it off. I work with my hands a lot always have. In other words can a Dr make it so it won t hurt anymore. It burns and ackes. Is it better to stretch it and force it, maybe message ?, Sorry for the long text. Carol Mitch

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

In my opinion trigger thumb should not be messaged or stretched. In my practice, I start painkillers and hot fomentation as a first step.

If no relief then it requires local injection of steroids or PRP. Finally, if there is no improvement then surgery may be required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
