Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My shin has a raised blue or black vein that is below knee a little to the right. I have a lot of visible veins but Never a problem and no pain ever. Now, three mornings in a row it takes two to three hours before I am able To walk w/o severe excruciating pain. So,today I found the source of pain. Right on the vein which juts out On my shin. Could I possibly get a firm fitting stocking to knee and could that take care of it? Or is there more to it?
Hello dear. You are having a condition called varicose veins. This is a condition where the valves of the veins in legs are not competent enough to push blood upwards and the veins of legs swell up. This is more commonly seen in people who are having a job that demands more of standing posture like security gaurds, even surgeons. Please consult your physician. The treatment for this condition is you should wear tight stockings to the legs or a crepe bandage, during your working hours. And during night when you sleep, keep your legs at an elevation by keeping a pillow below your leg. If the condition is not resolving then you need to undergo a surgery where the veins are stripped and removed. If left without treatment it can go into complications like formation of ulcers in the legs. So consult a doctor soon. Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you. All the best With warm regards Dr Sanjay Kini
