What Causes A Lump On Knees After A Knee Cap Replacement?

I had a knee cap replacement and shaving of the tibular tuberosity 18 months ago I have woke up this morning and there is a lump at the side of my right knee it is warm to touch and painful to walk on should I go the hospital or put ice on it and rest???
