What Causes A Low Heart Rate?

I was at the doctor today. My pulse rate was 49. I am on indapamide 2.5 mg and amlodipine besylate 5 mg. My doctor ordered an EKG - it was normal, and she said I have had low heart rates before- but I do not remember ever having one that low.She said everything is good. Should I worry? And other than exercise is there anything else I can do to raise it?

Hello,

Your drug history indicates you are a hypertensive patient.

Both drugs lower blood pressure. However, Amlodipine can cause changes in heart rate as it is a calcium channel blocker by relaxing muscles.

This can cause a low pulse. But you don't worry your pulse is still in a normal range around 50 per second pulse below 50 is called Bradycardia and I feel you should consult a good cardiologist maybe you need to modify your drug dosage.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
