What Causes A Knot At The Site Of Bone Removal For Grafting?

I had right knee surgery and bone graph done 2 weeks ago 2 days ago. On my hip where they took bone for my bone graph, I know have a bump that has formed its kind of hard, a little warm to the touch, my temp today has been 98.9 to 99.5 and been having chills and hot spells off and on. My doctor that did the surgery is 2 1/2 half hours away. Should i have this checked out? I can send a picture. Thanks Carol

Hi Carol,

Temperature of 98.9 to 99.5 sounds normal. A bump that forms after surgery from the graft site is normal, and I'd look out for any redness. If there is redness that is worsening, then you may have an infection at that area. A picture would be helpful and I can further comment if you send one.

But based on what you're describing, it doesn't sound too concerning. Redness and warmth are the two most concerning symptoms, as well as fevers over 101.

I hope I have answered your question. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
