What Causes A Jaw Bone Infection After A Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

My son had his wisdom teeth extracted 4 weeks ago. He is now in the hospital waiting for a biopsy. They have found an infection in his jaw bone which has been rapidly eating at his bone. What is this? I am in CA and he is in MA and no one will talk to me there because he is an adult 22.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain there is a possibility that you are suffering from Osteomyelitis..
Osteomyelitis of jaw is infection of the bone marrow and can originate sue to spread of infection from infected tooth..
Consult another oral surgeon and get evaluated and x rays and CT scan will be done and biopsy report will be evaluated..
You can be advised appropriate antibiotics, oral as well as intravenous once the type of bacteria causing infection is ruled out..
You can also be advised debridement of the wound with pus drainage and proper antiseptic dressings will be placed..
It has to be taken care of as it can cause pathologic fracture of the jaw..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
