Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I woke up last week with a pea size lump in my tongue, it is still there and seems to be irritated and swells more throught the day after eating. It becomes tender as the day progresses, but feels better in the morning. It doesnt have a blister or sore on it and doesn't look like any of the pictures on the Internet. I don't have insurance so dint know what to do
As per your complain it seems that a painful lump on the tongue that gets bigger on eating and more painful is due to it getting irritated by food, hot and cold. It can be a swollen gland while can also be a soft tissue inflammation or a hematoma caused due to trauma to the tongue.
As it is already about second week of the symptoms, I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like biopsy [if there is any doubt] can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly. As of now you can apply numbing gel over the lump. Take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen. DO cool compresses. Take a Vitamin B complex tablet daily. Take soft diet and avoid hard and spicy foods to prevent its irritation.
Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
