What Causes A Black Spot On The Abdomen?

A few weeks ago I noticed a small black spot on my stomach. It resembled a tick or other type of insect that was starting to imbed the skin. I attempted to rub it out, and in doing so, it was removed with a bit more invasivness. In the process there was very minimal bleeding. After being cleaned and covered, a few days later a bruise or blood accumulated under the skin. This seems to be diminishing slightly. I am questioning the possibility if it were a mole would it have been removed that easily? Could not be identified because it came apart in pieces. My wonderful dermatologist retired, and I need your advise before trying to locate, one to fill his shoes. Thanks so much for your time. YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Moles generally develop over months so if you noticed the spot only a week ago very likely it was not a mole. The fact that it was easily removed by rubbing it confirms this as well. An insect could be the case and if you think it was a tick you may need oral antibiotics.

On the other hand, if the spot starts to grow back then it may have been a mole and you will need to have it checked with a doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
