What Causes A Baby To Sit And Suck The Thumb With No Other Movement?

my 16 month old daughter used to be running all day long for the past 3 months (ever since she started walking) but in the last couple of weeks she would sit or lie on the floor and suck her thumb without any movement, she doesn't cry or anything, but she isn't her normal self either. Should I be worried?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for asking.
I can understand your concerns.
Usually children resort to thumb sucking as a calming activity. It helps them to calm down when they are over stimulated. Does she do it all day or only some of the time?
I would suggest you remove her thumb gently and try to engage her in some activity. If this does not work I would suggest you see a developmental and behavioural paediatrician for detailed assessment.
I hope I have helped you.
Thank you.
