Hi my dad is 75 and his left arm is turning black from shoulder to elbow..he has a pig valve and I worri
y its his heart..he's been also sleeping alot. My grandma just passed away and she was in good health.I no older people get dark bruises everywher but this looks pretty bad..nervous what do u think could cause this..he's trying to quit smoking and is taking chantix along with his other 19 daily med

Your dad needs to be seen by a doctor right away. His arm turning black could be from decreased blood flow to the arm, possibly because of his heart or a blood clot. Could be infection or gangrene. He's taking a lot of medicine, so it's also possible there is some interaction among them causing problems. If he's taking a blood thinner, the level might be too high and causing bleeding into his arm. Bring him to the emergency room. Hope this answers your query.
