Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What could possibly be the cause of random yet increasing in frequency, hard heart beats? I lose my breath and feels as if my heart is literally trying to jump out of my chest. It takes anywhere from 3-6 minutes for my heart to return to its normal rhythm.
There are different possible causes of rapid heart beat such as: (1) hyperthyroidism- high levels of thyroid hormone- this can be checked with a blood test
(2) anemia
(3)anxiety
(4)side effect of medication, caffeine
(5)infection
(6)electrolyte disorder such as abnormal potassium
(7)alcohol use, smoking
You should consider visiting your doctor for an assessment which would include physical examination and an ECG (would look at heart rate and rhythm). Blood tests checking the thyroid and full blood count , may also be needed.
I hope this helps
