What Cause Painful Muscle Spasms In Ribs?

I am a 31 yr old female. I started getting sudden catches in my ribs directly toward the middle of my ribcage. It is a sudden catch that results in a knotted muscle that I cannot relax. Like a spasm. What could cause this? It is very painful. I also have recently developeed Vitiligo on my hands and forearms. Can this be related?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,Welcome to the HCM,
Muscle spasm can be caused by deficiency of calcium, magnesium or potassium.
It can also be caused, if steroids have been taken recently.
Since you have got vitiligo ,which is an autoimmune response to skin, there are some autoimmune diseases which can cause both of these symptoms. My suggestion would be get blood calcium,Mg and potassium level. You may also need cosultation of rheumatologist to rule out any autoimmune cause.
If you have any further quiry ,you can ask without any hesitation.
