What Can Cause Pain In The Hands And Fingers After An Electric Shock?

My son was shocked trying to hook up a speaker a few days ago. Within the past 2 to 3 days he is complaining that both hands and fingers are painful , one more so than the other, he has very limited use of his middle fingers on one hand, Can this be a symptom of being shocked or something else?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Numbness and shock-like electrical sensations in the fingers can cause discomfort and lead to difficulty picking things up or weakness in the fingers. Nerve problems generally cause these symptoms. The burning, tingling or prickling sensations, called paresthesias, need evaluation if they last more than a few minutes. It may be due nerve compression or temporary dysfunction of nerves due to electricity passing or decreased blood supply to the nerves etc. You have to consult your neurologist and get checked for nerve conduction study then get treated accordingly till then you may use tablet Pregabalin according to body weight, tablet methylcobalamine once a day for five days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
