I’ve had occasions when it like food was stuck in my throat over the last couple years. Recently I’ve been burping a lot. This evening I was eating and food became lodged. I attempted to drink to wash it down, but it just became more painful. I began burping and regurgitating just the water. Esophageal stricture.

Sounds an acute inflammation issue, rather than stricture which does not show all of a sudden; there are symptoms of gradual onset over the period of time. Gargles with salted lukewarm water added peppermint oil and consult later your doc as per the need only.
