What Can Be Done For High BP?

My hands have been getting so cold in the middle of the day (10AM--3PM). They hurt. I step outside and place them against a warm building (it s 95-98 degrees here) I thought my blood pressure was low, so I stopped my meds. Turns out it was high. Took it--178/103. Whats wrong?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Dear patient,

Thanks for the query. This could be related to vasospasm of the vessels of the hands, called Raynaud's phenomenon; if this is the case, spontaneously or in response to cold, hands become pale, then bluish, they hurt and eventually they become red and warm again; these cycles repeat over time.

If this is the case, you should see aprovider as there are some medications that could help; also there are secondary causes of this phenomenon. Other lab tests worth checking include thyroid hormones and hemoglobin.

Hope this helps, wish you the best,
