What Are The Symptoms Of Menopause?

I am 48 year old female. I think I m going through menopause. I haven t had a period in four months but have recently noticed slight bleeding when I urinate (noticed Saturday 4/25/15). About an hour ago, I felt a sharp pain just inside my left hip bone. Menopause? I had perfect periods: bled 1 day, every 28 days like clockwork. However, I was in a near-fatal MVA in 2002 - broke 27 bones, none of which were repaired because both lungs collapsed. Most breaks were in pelvic area (illium, ischium...sp?), every rib on left side, scapula, jaw. TBI, lacerated left kidney....Believe it or not, other than inserting dentures every day, I rarely know I was in a wreck. Is discomfort tonight menopause related? Does Menopause hurt? Is there any way to know?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are in peri menopausal/menopausal phase and have not had periods since 4 months. You are having slight bleeding when you urinate and sharp pain at left hip bone. You have history of bone breaks in the pelvic area. You are suggested to get urinalysis (R/E and C/S) done to detect UTI as that may cause pain in the lower abdomen. If reports come positive you will be treated with antibiotics and antivirals.

Take magnesium, calcium, vitamin E rich diet. You can also take supplements. Menopause (perimenopause) symptoms cause irregular periods, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, mood changes, sleep problems, low sex drive, loss of libido, etc. Spotting or slight bleeding are indicative of menopause at this phase of life.

No worries, menopause is a normal physiological change through which every women goes through. You are advised to get a complete medical check up done so that any deficiency or chronic ailment can be treated & you may not suffer from CAD, Osteoporosis, weight gain, sexual dysfunction, etc. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
