What Are The Symptoms Of Dementia?

my 60 year old husband had a colonoscopy 3 years ago and immediatly after awakening showed deminished cognitive abilities and memory. This conditioned has worsened over the last 3 years and he is showing symptoms similar to alzheimers. He has never had a taste of alcohol yet showed a high level in his blood work during a physical before this colonoscopy. His doctor was sure he was lying about alcohol consumption but he truly did not have any. Could this elevated level have anything to do with the dementia?

Hi,

Welcome to HealthCareMagic.com I am Dr.J.Mariano Anto Bruno Mascarenhas. I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help you.

1.
When there is increased alcohol level in blood, we have to assume this to be the cause of diminished cognitive abilities.

2.
Alcohol Levels can be high even if he is not "consuming alcohol" directly, but takes some substances (eg Cough Syrup, Pain Killers) which have high alcohol content

So
He need not be lying

Coming to your question "Could this elevated level have anything to do with the dementia?", the answer is YES
