Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Thank You Doc, I have been advised by my doctor that he wants me to have a Prolia injection. I have been reading the reviews of the side effects and are not too keen on having it. I am 83yrs of age with very bad back and hip problems. Would a hip replacement do the job.? Ann
the prolia injection will have some stabilizing effect on your bone mass, i am assuming the bone mass got detected through special x ray (osteodensitometry) examination and the result showed that it is to low for your age group.
The following serious adverse reactions are discussed:
Hypocalcemia (low blood calcium) Osteonecrosis of the Jaw Atypical Subtrochanteric and Diaphyseal Femoral Fractures Infections Dermatologic Reactions
However, it is still advisable you give it a try since low bone mass can also lead to a lot of dangerous conditions like spine and femoral fractures. It is also important you take in enough calcium and vitamin D (ask your dotor about that). Hope this is helping you , if you have any clarificatons you can get back to me, if this was helpful please kindly rate my answer. Best regards
