What Are The Side Effects Of Khat Drug?

I have been using the drug khat for 2 years. Can this damage my liver. I'm experiencing pain when I cough, sneeze and laugh where my liver is. I itch all the time and sweat a lot. I haven't followed a healty diet either. I'm not experiencing pain in my shoulder or my back. I went for a sonar and ex rays and nothing seems to be wrong. No goal stones detected or a hernia but high cholesterol. Not sure what to do.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

Khat is an alkaloid drug which cause stimulation and excitation. You are using the drug since last two years. Long term use of this drug may increase risk of liver damage and some individuals even may develop hepatic failure. The drug can also increase the risk of oral cancer. The excess itching and sweating is occurring due to excitation and stimulation only. Even imaging tests came normal still I would advise you to go for liver function tests to rule out liver dysfunction.

Stop using the drug in future and try to improve your health.

Thanks, hope this helps you. Take care
