What Are The Risks Associated With Anterior And Low Lying Placenta?
My wife is at 20 and pregnant 13 week, we had first trimester screening in that everything mention normal But The PLACENTA Anterior and low lying extending upto the internal OS. Please let me know is there any risk ? if so what precaution to be taken during this period
It seems that your wife has Placenta Praevia. It is a condition in which the placenta is abnormal in position and lying antriorly and lower than usual. However your wife is 13 weeks preganant. It has been reported than large number of such praevia get corrected with time as the uterus starts growing with the fetus.
A definite diagnosis will be confirmed by a third trimester scan. If placenta is still abnormal and depending on degree of praevia which is graded on the area of os it covers it may lead to abnormal presentation of child during child birth. A complete placenta preavia may even require a Cesarean section.
I suggest that you can relax now as there is a good chance that this anomaly gets corected itself after 20 weeks of gestation. I would like to congratulate you on this all mighty's gift and suggest you enjoy each and every moment of being preganant.
God Bless.
Regards Dr Manish Jha
