What Are The Implications Of Drinking Cocaine On My Fetus During The Early Stages Of Pregnancy?
I have been using cocaine drinking and smoking over the festive period. I have just found out I am pregnant my last period was 24th December and I last took cocaine on Saturday night prior to that was before my last period. I only took the pregnancy test today as my period was late. What do you believe are the implications on my fetus at this stage. My husband thinks we should abort!
Prenatal cocaine exposure (PCE) occurs when a pregnant woman uses cocaine and thereby exposes her fetus to the drug. Drug use in the first trimester is the most harmful to the fetus in terms of neurological and developmental outcome. Studies have found that children exposed to cocaine during fetal development experience problems with language, behavior, development, and attention, but such side effect don't see in all. PCE is very difficult to study because it very rarely occurs in isolation: usually it coexists with a variety of other factors, which may confound a study's results. in ur case, it is difficult to guess the side effect. U can discuss all this with gynecologist and can go for Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) or Amniocentesis to check any morphological defect.
thanks
