What Are The Effects Of Marijuana After Brain Surgery?

I had Brain surgery to remove a 5.4cm tumor. It was discovered after I had a few seizures. It s been 3 weeks and 2 days since surgery. I feel great, exercising and back to my normal activities. My neurosurgeon said I can t smoke marijuana for 3 months. Is this correct? I haven t smoked it, and won t until I get his O.K. But just curios as to the reason why? I m pretty sure what I ve been reading is that it will stop the oxygen to your brain and could cause another seizure or even a stroke. Is this correct?

I agree with your neurosurgeon. Anything which burns and results in smoke being taken into your body can and does reduce O2 saturation levels. This is the reason as well that pilots are forbidden from smoking cigarettes within a certain time frame of flying commercial aircraft. The reduced O2 tension to the brain can affect their judgement and reaction times. Now, imagine if that can happen to pilots, what could the effect be in someone who just had brain surgery for tumor removal. In fact, I would go 1 step further to say that in my opinion the fact that you had the surgery and now will develop SCAR TISSUE in the brain is a risk factor already for seizures in the future. Add to that reduced O2 levels from your smoking ANYTHING in the future and now you've got a double whammy to think about. In other words, if I were you I'd seriously consider a smoking cessation program for all products that you would typically smoke...marijuana and otherwise. Good luck...and ROCK ON BROTHER! Peace Out!
