What Are The Effects Of Clarythromycin On An Embryo?

What are the effects of clarythromycin on an embryo? I was on day 6 of a 7 day course of 250mg of Klacid and it is possible that I may have just fallen pregnant (on day 6) I discontinued use immeadiately but am unsure how long it takes to be eliminated from my body. What are the chances of harm to the possible embryo?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Clarithromycin belongs to category C drugs in pregnancy according to FDA.
Means animal studies have shown some adverse effects on fetus but sufficient human studies are lacking.
As you have taken the drugs for only few days, there may not be any serious complications.
If you miss the expected day of periods, once go for pregnancy test.
If the test comes positive, continue the pregnancy with regular antenatal checkups and ultrasound examinations.
Anomaly scan at 11 to 12 weeks and TIFFA scan at 18 to 20 weeks are needed.
Take care.
