What Are The Chances Of Recovery From A Stroke?

My mom is 69 and had a stroke last week to the left side of her brain. She can t talk or swallow. She is currently in the hospital and hoping to go to rehab soon. She is now taking things from around her room and putting it in purses and bags and repeats this. What is she trying to tell us and does this mean? I know all situations are different, but is there hope for her recovery?
