What Are The Chances Of False Blood Test Results During Pregnancy?

Hi. I am 2 and a half months pregnant and my blood test for hepatitis c didn't come back positive or negative. So they had me get more blood drawn to test for it. My doctor told me that they see alot of false positive with women who are pregnant. I have given blood and plasma in the past and it was never detected. Could it be with the pregnancy? Or could it be with my new partner?

Hi!
welcome to HCM!
An HCV antibody test is used to screen for infection. It detects the presence of antibodies to the virus, indicating exposure to HCV. If the test is "weakly positive," it may be a false positive in such cases test is called equivocal and we advice for a repeat test. All positive antibody tests be followed by an HCV RNA test that detects viral RNA in the blood to determine whether or not the person has an active infection. In your case test will most probably turn ot to be negative, even if its positive confirmation needs to be done.So do not worry get the test repeated, pregenancy has no relation with Heapatitis C positivity.hope this helps.Take care!
