Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Are The Chances Of HIV Transmission Through Oral Sex?
So, a few days ago I had a sexual encounter with another man whose HIV status I do not know and am concerned about possible HIV exposure. I performed brief oral sex on him but he did not ejaculate at all. He also licked my anus for a short period. From what I have read, the risk of what we did is very low but I would welcome your view? For my piece of mind I still intend to get a test at the appropriate time.
Well, chances of getting HIV infection via Oro-Genital contact are less, however a number of factors can also be a contributing factors. The HIV virus are present in semen and vaginal secretions, in case if the secretions come in contact with blood then chances of infection becomes high. It includes any cuts inside the mouth or any sores inside the mouth, bleeding gums, infections in mouth etc. So in case if there was no ejaculations then chances are slim.
Still to be on a safer side, you can contact your partner to rule out his HIV status. In case if it is not possible then you can get yourself tested to be on a safer side and also to overcome the anxiety. Also, in future you should be cautious not to have a risky sexual exposure and always try and use appropriate protection before indulging into sexual activity. Using condoms and knowing the health status of partner should be a priority. Also, avoid having multiple sexual partners.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora, Dentist
