What Are The Alternatives Of Vicodin For Treatment Of Spinal Stenosis?

I have spinal stenosis; 4 hernia discs and 3 ruptured discs....I am 61 years of age. I do not like taking the prescribed painkiller - Vicodin - or other harsh anti-pain medication. What are my alternatives? I use so much Ibuprofen....My stomach and lower digestive system is really giving me fits ..

Hi,
If you are not satisfied with vicodin(hydroxycodone/acetaminophen), I can recommend tramadol. Thought tramadol is also an opioid, it does not carry much of side effects of opioid. It gives substantial relief in mild - moderate pain. But you need to watch out for symptoms like nausea; and vomiting in rare cases. Over time, these symptoms do subside.
You can discuss the above options with your prescriber. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic.
