What Are Hyper Inflated Lungs Suggestive Of?

I recently had a chest xray due to a cold, and the doctor said my lungs are hyper-extended and I am on leviquin. I have smoked for years and have temporarily quit twice before. If I had lung cancer, would that have shown on the xray, and could the hyper-inflated lungs be due to infection and they will go back to regular size when infection clears? Does this mean I have COPD?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Hyperinflated lungs on x-ray is a characteristic finding of COPD. However, it must be co-related clinically. If you have a chronic cough, with shortness of breath or wheezing on examination of chest, then it's likely to be COPD. It does not look to be related to cancer or acute infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
