Unable To Smell Or Taste After Polyps Removal. How To Gain Senses? Suffered From Chronic Sinusitis Before

i had surgery in april to remove a large mass of polyps. since this procedure i am unable to smell or taste. this loss of taste and smell was on occasion before but now it is gone. what can i do to renew these senses ?i have suffered from chronic sinusitus for years, and had sinus surgery before in 1993. cause was from working in a dirty office on wall street. dirty meanng the windows did not open anywhere in the building,so air circulation was "dirty" any ideas will be very much appreciated...this is a horrible loss...thank you

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding loss of smell sensation and taste after surgery for nasal polyp.

Here first of all I would like to tell you that smelling is perceive from upper most part of nasal cavity named as olfactory area , from here very thin fibers crosses the thin plate of bone (cribriform plate) to olfactory bulb. This is very vulnerable part of nasal cavity and very easily gets injured in accidents, in nasal diseases as polyps and even during surgeries. Once this gets damage, than it becomes very difficult to regenerate this sensory organ.

Regards.
