Swollen, Painful Testicles, Unable To Diagnose. Given Antibiotics, Painkillers. Cure?

My boyfriend was yesterday in hospital because of a swollen and very painful testicle,he was told it was a infection but doctors were not clear if it was a sti or not, he was given antibiotics pain killers and sent home. Today he has woken in more pain and more swelling,he is going back to hospital today. They said he hadn't twisted his testicle even though he wasn't give a ultrasound, im now worry that it could be a sti even though im myself have no symptoms, how do will we know what it is and if I myself will need treatment?

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

So sorry to hear about what your partner is going through right now.

Swollen and painful testicles can be caused by infections or something else. It is important that he gets a proper examination and get his urine checked for an infection. The doctor should be very sure about the fact that he has no twisting of his testicles because it can have far reaching consequences if missed.

The tests would be able to isolate and grow the germ. If it is a germ that can be transmitted through sex, then for sure you would need to be investigated and treated. For now, I will suggest that you both focus on getting the details about his illness and addressing the pressing problem which will also provide enough information for you to work on.

For now, let him try to wear a supportive underwear as well as the drugs he has to control the pains. Let him return and double check with his doctor and make sure all is being considered and taken care of.

I hope this helps. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for clarifications. I wish you well.
