Swelling, Itchy, Painful Hives. Taken Heartburn Pills And Benadryl. Help

I keep getting a swollen hive but then it gets itchy, swells larger, and is painful. It gets sometimes bigger than the size of my hand. Right now its on the back of my leg spreading to the back of my knee hurting to bend but is so itchy!!!! It seems when ever I take any kind of meds. The pill which I quit thinking that was it and it stopped for a few months but then I took heartburn pills (3 to he exact) and now I have a massive bump. What could this be? I can't take Benadryl cuz that doesn't help it. Please help me. I've tried going to the dr they keep telling me its hives or cellulitis but then give me steroids and that doesn't help either.

Hello. A possible diagnosis to consider is Erythema Nodosum.Erythema nodosum is a disease of the skin, recurrently appearing painful hives on legs.
The causes of erythema nodosum are diverse: Infections, Rheumatic Diseases and-very often- drugs allergy. You should go to your doctor to request allergy tests of the drugs you've taken (birth pill, heartburn pills ....)and give you to take an antihistamine more powerful than diphenhydramine to relieve itchy.
I wish you good health.
