Suggests Tests To Diagnose Vaginal Infections After Having Intercourse

Hi my boyfriend and I had sex and the condom slipped off. I thought that he had later found it and thrown it away, but actually it had gotten left in my vagina. Four days later, we were having sex again, and I noticed a really bad odor, which I finally realized it was coming from my vagina. Alarmed, I poked around in there and found the old condom! I had been on my period so it had some blood on it. And the odor was strong. Now I m worried about infection. I want to go to the doctor to get it check out but there is about a week wait. Do I need to be worried? Is there anything I can do on my own to prevent any possible infection or other problems?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Leaving used condom inside vagina for 4 days could result in mixed type of infection with bacterial and fungal nature. Since you are getting bad odor, it suggests that you have contacted with some type of infection.
You need not be much worried as you can take proper treatment to get rid of it completely.
It would be better to take medications containing both anti-bacterial agent like metronidazole and anti-fungal agent like fluconazole to cure it. Treatment may last anywhere between one, three or seven days depending on the extent of infection.
Kindly consult Gynecologist in this regard for evaluation by pelvic and per speculum examination and management.
Kindly keep the area under good hygiene by washing with mild soap solution and rinsing with solution like V-wash. Avoid sexual activity till the infection is completely cured.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
