Suggest Ways To Combat Withdrawl Effects Of Tramadol

Hi, my Doctor told me when he prescribed Tramadol HCL CA 50mg, that it was not addictive. Your info clearly says it is. I have been taking it once a day in the evenings since Feb as it gives me relief so I can sleep. Do I need to stop and if I do how do I stop safely

Hello,

All the medicines have side effects. Any medicine taken for a long time may become addictive. It is better to give gaps between medicine intake to avoid addictions and side effects. You are suggested to get into contact with a detox center or a local GP in your area. Weaning any medicine causes withdrawal symptoms that need immediate attention and medical support for a successful detox session.

Since you have been taking the medicine for a long time period you should slowly taper (reduce) your dose. Do not stop taking the medicine altogether for the withdrawal symptoms may go out of control. Keep reducing the dose on a weekly basis so that you can successfully get weaned in 5-6 weeks.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
