Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 31 and I have stage one hyper tension. I am 5 7 180lbs with a lot of visceral fat around my mid section. I take 10mg lisinopril to manage my high blood pressure (I am also on Betaseron for MS which I ve read can raise blood pressure), but today it measured at 160-170 on top and 80-90 on bottom. Is it time to talk to my doctor about upping my dosage? What foods have been clinically proven to naturally lower BP? I ve cut soda, high fat, and high sodium foods out of my diet completely, what other steps should I consider?
I understand your query and concern. Elevated blood pressure needs extensive evaluation in the form of cardiac evaluation in the form of 2 dimensional echocardiography ,ECG and lipid profile estimation. Its always important to maintain your blood pressure under 130/80 mm of hg pressure.Restrict the intake of salt to less than 6g/day.Regular physical exercise can lead to reduction of the blood pressure.Cut down salt and fat rich foods.Consume one pomegranate each day.Drugs like beta blockers and diuretics will help to control the blood pressure effectively.Increasing the drug dosage will help to control BP effectively.Consult your cardiologist for better options.Post your further queries if any. Thank you.
