Suggest Treatment For Weight Loss And High Cholesterol In A Diabetic Person
I m newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.I ve noticed that I m having difficulty controlling my weight with the same amount of exercise that I ve done in the past. Since May 15th, I ve gained 12 # and am frustrated. Recent lab work also identified high cholesterol, LDL out of range and high triglycerides. My blood pressure is within the normal range. I m interested in one diabetes medication that will help with lowering my A1c, helping me with weight loss and lowering my cholesterol and triglycerides. What would you suggest?
Dietary and lifestyle modification should be done to reduce blood sugar and blood cholesterol.Kindly check your weight and body mass index and find the number of kilogram you need to reduce. You have not mentioned your fasting and post prandial cholesterol levels.Newly diagnosed diabetics with mild to moderate diabetes, are usually started with metformin once or twice daily.
Continue metformin, dietary changes and daily physical activity. Check your blood sugar levels again after 10 to 15 days. Dose adjustments can be done after the test results.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
