Suggest Treatment For Unproductive Cough And Fatigue

Hello - I went to the instacare 7 days ago I had an unproductive cough a bit of fatigue. It got worst when I lied down. The doctor prescribed me an inhailer and 50mg prednisone and some codine cough syrup. It makes me seem like I feel better that s what prednisone does for me anyways. I don t feel better im still coughing quite a bit. when I use a heating pad and all of the prescriptions I am able to sleep. when I wake up and start coughing nothing comes out. Not sure if I should wait or go get checked again.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
If you are feeling continuous dry or unproductive coughing despite inhalers or steroid, then chances of allergic or infective bronchitis will be more.
See, steroids are powerful drugs to combat inflammation but once it has occurred already inside tracheobronchial tree then this steroids would not give relief ( the reason of your continous coughing)rather you should start antibiotics with antihistamines with mast cell stabilizers and other supportive treatment if required.
Actually we are not suppose to prescribe drugs here, that's why I has just mentioned the gross treatment how to proceed further.
Overall I would say inhalers (of any drug) are good but don't take unnecessary oral steroids specially when they have no role.
Consult pulmonologist for further advise.
