Suggest Treatment For Twitching Of Eyes After Suffering A Severe Concussion

I have a severe concussion due to a quading accident. I put a 4 inch crack in my helmet. The doctors told me to expect signs of a concussion for up to a year. It has been 2 weeks and so far the only injuries I sustained was the concussion, a torn rotator cuff, some memory issues and facial paralysis that went away with steriods. Now my right eye is constantly twitching. Is this normal or should I see a doctor again? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Eye symptoms after concussion may be presenting complaints.in some of the cases due to accommodation spasm of some eye muscle. In these cases some muscle around the eye may contract and may remain contracted for an extended time. This will cause problems of near fixation, accommodation of eyes, double vision etc.

Also any injuries to muscles of lids, injury to nerves of these muscles as well as nerves of the brain sending the signals for contraction of these muscles may cause twitching of one or both eyes. Eye twitching is eye lid spasms with rapid frequency and out of control.

Most of these symptoms will go away with time. However, if the symptoms do not disappear within a few weeks, twitching starts in other parts of face or body or eyes become inflamed, swollen, red, irritated or discharge from eye is there, then it is an indication to see your ophthalmologist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
