Suggest Treatment For Tinnitus In The Ear

I have a cold sensation in my ear that just lasts for a couple of seconds. Also a lot of ringing. This ear was treated for chleseatoma 25 yrs ago. My ENT said I had an ear infection and put me on Cipro ear drops and levaquin. I have been on the meds for 10 days nothing has changed have pain with it also. Also I have jaw pain . Need a second opinion. Thanks

Hi,

Tinnitus is common issue and most casuses are benign and temporary. However it this lasts for longer period then it should be evaluated.

Tinnitus can occur due to causes like chronic ear infection, perforated eardrum, Eustachian tube dysfunction, Meniere's disease, TMJ disorders, Acoustic Neuroma etc.

Tinnitus is not a disease in itself but it is a symptom that indicates that there is some underlying illness. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Audiometry, X-ray MRI can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

In case if ringing does not resolve then you can be advised medicines like Tricyclic Anti-depressant like Amitryptiline, anti anxiety medication like Alprazolam, as well as Multivitamin supplements can be advised.
